In brief, entropy is randomness. The "system entropy pool" is a place where 
the system gathers data which it can safely consider random (i.e. mouse 
movements, keypresses, etc. which are not predictable); this data is then 
later used for key generation, random number generation, and other tasks 
where being unpredictable is extremely important.

Sorry, that's all I know and wouldn't know to where I should point you 
either. But hopefully this at least takes the sharp edge off your curiosity.
