You don't have to subscribe.

Until up2date was started, one could go to their friendly neighborhood
mirror and download all of the updates they ever wanted. Or they could
use a tool to do it for them.

Know what? Now you can go to your friendly neighborhood mirror or use a
tool to do it for you.

We've come full circle, but we brought along a service that didn't
exist. Don't like the cost? Don't use it. Try that with  the folks up
around Seattle.
