I don't know about 7.2 (don't have it), but 7.1 definitely has automount/autofs--I've just never used it. :) See the manpages for automount and autofs for more details. Looks pretty simple to setup. The reason I wouldn't use it is that I would always be triggerring the floppy/cdrom drive when there wasn't a disk in it. For example, a find command could set it off. Then you would have to sit there and wait for it to figure out that there's not really anything in the drive.
