Kevin:

I guess you saw by now the various responses we have had to IP
forwarding.
And yes the suggestions to change the /etc/sysctl.conf is the way to
allow
IP forwarding. You set the net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1 which it looks like
you
already have to begin with. I have used both ways with RH 6.2 and both
work
on several machines I have set up. But in the end I always set that
parameter to = 1. You caught me after a 13 hour hitch of work and I
could not think of the file that this was located in. Ok you already had
that set. Can you describe to me how you are connecting with your
server? Seems to be a 56K modem which you are having line speed
problems. After you connect I assume you have one box connected via lan
to your RH 7.2 server which is a windoze machine? You can ping both ways
with no problem? The
modem connection issue is usually always one of line problems. First how
many phones are on this same line? Are there any phones that are
wireless, as they can affect line speed. Have you tried connecting with
a different modem to see if connect speeds are any better. I assume your
ISP supports 56k or V.90. You may want to check as most I have seen
support V.90 but will not support the older X2 that US robotics used to
have. I connect at
about 37000 to 38000 and am connecting with a USR V.90 external
sportster.
I use this line for that only. Also line speed can be affected by poor
or old wiring. I have seen it all out here while I was supplying
internet access for 4 years to modem users. Back to your network it
looks like you
have assigned 192.168.13.222 to the server and 192.168.13.223 to the
client. You say there is no problem. Does that mean you are IP
forwarding with this setup? If so why do you want to assign a different
range of IP addresses to this client?

A suggestion that one person offered which is one that I wanted to offer
you today after work was to setup a firewall like firestarter which is
available from souceforge.net. This X window configured firewall will
take
care of your IP forwarding and all the little extras through a little
setup wizard that makes this all much easier. I would highly recommend
it.

Let me know how you do,

Eddie Strohmier

in RH 7.2 ?

Hi Eddie,

I was tried your way, but seem like don't work or may be I did a wrong
thing. The problem is client side can't browse Intereting when I assign
a different range of IP (10.0.0.1) to them (p.s. Server IP Address is
192.168.13.222). If I change the IP (192.168.13.223) for client, they
haven't any problem at all. So I think there is something need to do on
IP forwarding. Do you know what I can do to solve this problem, also
can you teach me how to set the connecting speed to 56000 (now only can
connect to 21600, but both modem can support to 56K) ? Thanks again !

Best regards,
Kevin Chan
