I haven't done this in awhile, so I may be wrong, but squid's use of
external DNS servers is configurable.  Check the docs and the comments
in squid.conf.  If you compile or configure out that option, it should
use system calls, which will give back whatever your system does
(ordinarily /etc/hosts first; see nsswitch.conf).
