Well, not exactly. Firebird is a fork on the Interbase code which was
released under an open source license by Borland. Today they are mostly
the same code, but Borland is evolving its own proprietary version (and
not updating the open source version) and the firebird team is
implementing their own new features and bug fixes. Someday they'll
become so different as Sybase and MS SQL Server (MS database was born as
a Sybase port for intel cpus).
