An update. The laptop was just returned from Xi Graphics where they used it to produce a driver. Upon return, the graphics were no better than before and the unpredictable and continuous repeating key problem was not present. To add insult to injury, as they installed the program, I do not have the uninstall utility and their web site states that the download directory that I can 'click' my way to does not exist. Therefore I am left with the ugly task of removing XFree86 and reinstalling to get rid of their code.
Please correct me, but after doing an rpm -e XFree*, I will have to go into /usr/X11R6 and remove any additional subdirectories that are left around and then reinstall all XFree components before reconfiguring? Thanks to those that answered, but none of the keyboard utilities worked. The problem was not with every key and not with the same key in a predictibale manner. Somehow Xi code trashed the keyboard repeat rate in an unpredictable manner.
