It's just a normal zone. But don't confuse that with the localhost zone. Just set up a new, separate zone for your stuff. For example, my house operates as casa.paiz.org internally and I have a normal zone for casa.paiz.org *in addition* to the local zone that was already configured. Basically, install bind and caching-nameserver, don't touch anything that's configured, then *add* one zone for your house (both forward and reverse DNS zones, of course). Does that help?
