Too little information. You're going to need make, model, etc. But more importantly, you're going to need to do a little work before then, until you get to the point where you have specific questions. This is like "how do I build a computer?" You need to get to the point where you're asking "Which slot does the AGP card go into?" Hope you know what I mean. * Start at http://www.linuxdoc.org and look through the HOWTO's for something about scanners. * Also check http://www.xsane.org which I *think* is the site for the X program that runs scanners.
