You _can_ run KDE stuff while in a different WM. Just run kpackage from
the commandline. No need to change desktops temporarily just to run a
package program.

Now, if it _still_ segfaults, you have a whole different problem. But
likely it's a bug in gnorpm (or whatever they call it these days).
