When I tried to start postgres after doing that, it gave me the 'old version detected...' message again. The $PG_VERSION that the init script looks for was still 7.0. Therefore, > pgsql < dumpfile Can not work. I fooled around a bit in the /var/lib/postgres* area, moving and renaming, to no avail. Complicating the situation is the age of the original setup. It was built under RH 6.0 or 6.1, so whatever detritus previous upgrades have left behind is still there. In my use, postgres is a background app. All I have ever had to do is leave it alone, except for the last RH upgrade, and the details of that have faded into the fog of time. I needed to use the database today, so I backleveled postgresql to 7.0.x, from RH7.1 CD's. . RPM kicks ass. . Yes, postgres works, as ever. Are there any proper RH upgrade instructions anywhere? I have looked, but I have found nothing. It would also be helpful if someone could tell me what a clean RH 7.3 postgres 7.2 tree under /var/lib/postgres/ looks like. If I knew that, I would know what to prune. ----------------------------------------------------------- Carl Brown [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------------ Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
