I had problems with a OEM WD CaviarŪ WD400AB 5400 RPM 40GB drive. The RH
7.1 text mode installer had trouble detecting it. I could only get Linux
to install only if I set the jumper to cable select and put it on the
second (slave) cable position. Even then it was iffy. But, I did not
want my only drive in the system to use the /dev/hdb device driver.

I couldn't even use Partion Magic 7.0 to do anything with the drive. It
said the drive had an unknown partition type of #110. I sold the drive to
a friend who says it works perfectly in his Mac. He had no trouble
formatting it.

Now, I have a retail WD CaviarŪ WD400BB 7200 RPM 40GB HD and am having no
problems iwth it. It formatted first time in single drive mode. I still
don't know what was wrong with the other drive or if I was doing someting
wrong. Anyway, I'm happy and my firend is happy with his new HD.

Later,
Steven
