I'm truly not sure about the audio. I know in Windows it loads AudioMAX
software for it. I can't tell you how good (or bad) the audio is, apart from
the fact that to my hearing, it sounds pretty good. The 3D Graphics were
reviewed just this month in PC Authority Australia (or was it last issue?).
They say it has roughly the same performance as an nVidia GeForce 2 MX. Far
outdated, to be sure, but it IS a freeby, and the board DOES have an AGP
slot to compensate for us power users :)

> Conclusion: Athlon XP Has The Lead Over Pentium 4
> http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/01q4/011031/xpvsp4-15.html

hhhmmm. An article from October 2001 Quarter 4. You're surely not serious?

I was hoping you wouldn't do the old AMD - v - Pentium IV thing.

PC Authority August 2002 - Pages 36 and 37.

Verdict on AMD: The Athlon XP 2200+ fails to give any significant gains over
the 2100+, and would-be upgraders are advised to take a wait-and-see
approach to the Thoroughbred.

Verdict on Intel: The 2.53Ghz is another small but firm step forward for the
Pentium IV, although it's still very pricey.

Basically the whole article talks about the AMD Athlon architecture on
higher clock speeds hitting it's performance ceiling through bottlenecks,
whereas the Intel P4 is just hitting it's strides on the higher clock
speeds.

Furthermore some independent benchmarks were done on:

Quake 3: Intel 2.53: 123.4 AMD 2200+: 108.8
Sysmark2002: Intel 2.53: 252 AMD 2200+: 190
3DMark2001SE: Intel 2.53: 11536 AMD 2200+: 11239

Unfortunately they have not put it up on their web-site but I'll be happy to
scan in the pages from the magazine and mail them to you if you wish.

I wasn't bashing AMD, we sell both here, but all our power users in the know
are still buying P4s for a reason.

Regards,
Ed.
