Since I posted this to the redhat-list I have learned through the valhalla-list and experimentation by folks there that the Adaptec 2940 UW does work with 7.3 for some folks but it seems dependent on how up-to-date the bios on the scsi controller card is. My card and another person's on the list had bios that was v1.25 and that appears to be "too old".
