As a newbie, working in my basement disconnected from the world I have logged in as root each time I start Apache.
The linux administrators guide I have been reading talks about daemons running as root as a potential security hole and potentially distructive. What do most web sites do? Do I create a user "Apache" and only let that user have security rights to directories that it uses for its own programs and content? Is there a how to somewhere for this?
