I have a WAN and a Linux server has only a default gateway which is not pointing to a WAN router (just internet firewall that isn't aware of internal routes). I can not ping the Linux machine from the WAN. If I set the Linux machine to use the local router as the default gateway (or add routes to the Linux route table), it works. Is there a easier way to get this to work without having to change the default gateway. Really not a problem, but just curious why it does this. I have other machines in the LAN that can be pinged (also without the router as the gateway).
