Run the following command: chkconfig --list And check if ssh (or ssh2) appears listed. For example, in my box: [root@linux0037 root]# chkconfig --list|grep ssh sshd2 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off Which means that runlevel 3,4,5 have it on.
