>From lilo, <ctrl>-x, which takes you to text mode boot.
Then, from the prompt, linux -s
which boots you to single-user mode.
passwd: (new_password)
reenter: (new_password)
<ctrl>-d
The last continues the boot up to normal multiuser mode. Try not to forget 
the new password....
