i understand how to put a command in the background by putting an '&' on the end, but it seems that this doesn't separate the command from that xterm.
for example, i ssh into machine (b) from machine (a) and run: # safe_mysqld & [1] 18208 # Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql # exit then i exit the prompt and i /should/ get back machine (a)'s prompt but instead, i get a blank screen. if i log back into machine (b) fron another xterm and kill the process, the original xterm returns to machine (a)'s prompt. isn't there a way to completely separate a process from an xterm? i'm running konsole in kde if that helps... _________________________________ daniel a. g. quinn starving programmer when a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic. - dresden james -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
