What configuration file is used to tell a linux machine the IP address
of the gateway machine to the Internet?

I currently have a linux gateway machine to which other linux machines
can direct their output to get onto the internet. I have also set up
an XP Pro machine as a gateway when the Linux gateway machine is not
being used. But the linux machines still want to send their output to
the Linux gateway machine. I had a professional linux support agency
help me with the Linux gateway and apparently they must have also done
something with each of the linux machines so they would access that
specific gateway machine. I don't know what they did but it now appears
to me that each linux machine that wants to access a gateway has to be
told about that gateway. Does anyone know the command and/or the
configuration file for this purpose???

Bye-thanks_TED
