Hi everybody,

I'm trying to install RedHat 8.0 via ftp but I can't make it work. The ftp server has the iso files mounted in the directories /home/bnegrao/disc1, /home/bnegrao/disc2, /home/bnegrao/disc3, /home/bnegrao/disc4 and  /home/bnegrao/disc5. The installing computer can logon in the ftp server but cannot retrieve the installation file.

I mounted each iso file using the following command, for example, for the disc1 and disc2 files:
mount -o loop -t iso9660 psy*disc1* /home/bnegrao/disc1
mount -o loop -t iso9660 psy*disc2* /home/bnegrao/disc2

I tried to decipher the "Tip" bellow from the redhat 8.0 installation guide, but I couldn't understand what they mean with "by loopback mounting them" - surely this is not an expression for an foreigner to decipher. Could someone explain this to me?

Tip Tip

You can also install Red Hat Linux using ISO images without copying them into a single tree by loopback mounting them as:

disc1/,disc2/,disc3/
Thank you,
