Hi,

I have a couple of small things I would like to do with ppp and my net in
general. I'm using my 5.0 linux box as a ppp gateway to my ISP with
ppp2.3.4, masquerade and dial on demand. My ISP has this goofy policy
where I can be on for 8 hours, then need to get off for half an hour. On
for 8 more off for half... If I leave my mail program up, it checks for
mail every 10 minutes, so the most I'll be off the air is 10 minutes.

First, is there a nice utility (x-based, preferably) that can tell me what
the duration of my current call is? Is there some utility or facility that
has more flexibility than the simple idle command for controlling the
dialing? (Ideally, I'd like to tell it that if I've been on for 8 hours,
hold off for half an hour, or if the line went dead, don't pay any
attention to smtp/pop traffic until half an hour has passed).

Second, when you use the "demand" option, it insists on you specifying an
IP address for the remote end. It turns out I have a static IP. What's
the conventional wisdom for using demand in combination with a dynamically
generated IP address that comes from your isp?
