Hi,
Well, if you are connecting to your ISP via Minicom (even for 2
minutes) I think Linux is seeing your modem. So, you shouldn't worry
about /dev/modem now. I was having similar problem. I think your best
bet is to run netcfg from a Terminal (as root) and then fill out all
the information (under Interface, add PPP) and activate it from there.
Still, to be sure, you can go to Modem configuration under
Administrative option and Modem Configurator. Make sure your modem is
on the right port (ie: COM1 /dev/cua0). Then connect from there. If
that works, then you want to consider something like ezPPP or Xisp
which are gui PPP dialer for Linux. Or if you prefer CLI, you can
find many scripts. Some of the thing you can do is check your
configuration files..../etc/hosts and so on. One problem I was
encountering by having bunch of junk in /etc/ppp/option file. Now,
only thing I have is "lock" and there's no problem.
