I installed Red Hat 5.1 a few days ago and set up my ppp connection
with Network Configurator. My previous version of Linux was Red Hat
4.2, so I'm familiar with setting up ppp and have had no problems.
Also, I don't have any special hardware/software configurations. I'm
able to connect to my ISP and it reports back the correct IP address,
but no thruput. Messages file reports "PPP cannot override default
route." I found that I can make it work by typing "route add default
ppp0" at the prompt, but only if I'm connected, otherwise it reports
a "SIOCADDRT device not capable", and the command only lasts thru the
session. The only information I can find in the LDP and Net3-HOWTO is
that some versions of Linux have been configured with eth0 as the
default device, as was Red Hat 5.1, and that this problem has been
reported, but no details on how to solve it. I do have an ethernet
card and LAN Intranet. I've tried all kinds of configurations
How can I set a permanent default route?
