I upgraded to RH 5.1 on Sunday by doing a clean install on a machine which had been running RH 4.1. PPP to my ISP was quite happy both under RH 4.1 and earlier under SunOS. Now, under RH 5.1, the two ends no longer get through IPCP negotiation. It's supposed to be a Cisco Portmaster on the far end. I started off trying to use diald 0.16p5, but when it didn't work, dropped back to using only pppd as configured by the netcfg tool. The error stayed the same. Combinations of turning off compression and the "noipx" option didn't help. Using the "noip" option naturally got rid of those IPCP requests that my ISP wasn't responding to, but I did really want to run IP across this link. I tried the pppd from older versions of RH, including 5.0, but there was no joy. I used rpm to reinstall the version that ships with RH 5.1, and I returned to the status quo as given in the log below. Below is pretty much what happens every time (I had turned compression negotiation on again by the time this log was captured). Any ideas other than to drop back to RH4.2? --Jon Radel [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Jun 9 06:57:54 cerebus syslogd 1.3-3: restart.
