Problem: Not always sending or fetching mail, upon connection.

Environment: RedHat 5.1

Details:

I have added the necessary commands to /etc/ppp/ip-up.local to
automatically fetch Email from my ISP, both POP and SMTP; and to
automatically send any pending SMPT Email that I've written.

For the curious, my /etc/ppp/ip-up.local looks like this:

sendmail -q
etrn.pl email.vnet.net
fetchmail --batchlimit 1000
wall mail fetched

I always get the wall message, so I know that ip-up.local is being
executed. However, most of the time, nothing is sent or fetched, and I
have to manually execute the commands. Curiously, one time in about 6 or
7, either the fetchmail (POP), or booth it, and the etrn.pl (SMTP) works.
(I have never noticed the sendmail actually work.) Manually executing
these commands, always has the desired affect.

I suspect it's a timing issue. So, I was looking for some way to put in a
delay, but couldn't find it.

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks / Ray
