No, in fact! I called, and now the problem is solved. Thanks for pointing
out this critical point. It reminds me of the time I experienced
severe mouse nonfunctionality on my old Sun3 Xwindow system. After
spending several hours on the config files, I called the Sun support
system, described the problem, and was gentling told to rotate my
optical mouse pad 90 degrees. Since then, I always debug system problems
by checking the mouse pad first. From now on, I'll double check the ISP's
route tables second.

     Many thanks, Steve Borho, and Jim Kusznir, too. Fortunately,
I didn't need to configure a firewall in order to get packet transfer
to work, as Jim had suggested.
