I had the same prob. while installing my ppp connection ie not 8-bit
clean. I read some where in the HOWTO files, I think in PPP HOWTO there is
a debugging section which said that the login process might not have
completed on the server(ISP) side when your PPP session. It says to
increase lcp-max-configure in ppp options. Why dont you try it out?
