We've had this discussion before and the obvious bears repeating. It's not a matter of dropping Varitek. There needs to be a viable replacement and there's no evidence one exists witin the organization right now. They have a kid they like at Double-A, Mark Wagner, but he's not likely ready for '09. So that means identifying either a free agent or someone available via trade -- and whom are you willing to give up for a starting catcher? It's not like there are many on the trade market. And if they do replace him, my bet is he's kept around as the backup -- the Captain Intangibles thing and all. -- Matt
