Eight years is a long time. The comparison to Manny is good, but not
perfect. The concern I'd have is that asset values have been falling
like a stone. Does this affect revenue for the Sox? Do you want to be
tied up to a contract that size for that long in an uncertain revenue
environment? I suspect the Sox could absorb it, but it has to be a
consideration. I pull the trigger because as good as he is, I think he
still has more power in him. Don't worry about where he plays.
Injuries will take care of that. I'm not even sure Lowell is viable at
3rd, given how he looked at the end of last year. Between Lowell, Ortiz
and Drew, you can expect to find 150 games for him.

I'm not one to take pleasure if the disappointment of others, but this
did make me chuckle a bit.

Seems like the Dodgers offer is pretty damn generous Manny.

Manny Ramirez is so upset by his lack of suitors on the free agent
market that he's told friends he would consider retirement if an offer
doesn't come soon, Newsday reported yesterday.

Los Angeles Dodgers GM Ned Colletti is prepared to wait out Ramirez,
meanwhile.

The NL West champions made the free agent slugger a two-year, $45
million offer this fall but haven't heard whether he will accept it.
Colletti said he last spoke with Ramirez' agent, Scott Boras, on Monday
night.

The 36-year-old Ramirez, who came to the Dodgers from the Red Sox

deadline, batted .396 with 17 home runs and 53 RBI in 53 games for Los
Angeles.

On a side note, does anyone have a problem with giving Texiera eight
years?
