Getting back to the point.
Beckett had good control, good command, good speed.
They slapped and scraped and check-swinged their way to most of
those hits last night. Sometimes you don't see but one or two seeing
eye singles, check swing line hits etc in a game. Last night there were
about 5 by the Yankers.
Beckett looked great to me.

Of course Steve's whining, and mine, brings up something that
I've learned about baseball since playing roto seriously.
The fact is that pitching is elusive and it is very difficult to
find a sure thing. The best one can do with limited resources, as we
have in roto, is pick one guy who you think is a sure thing and then
four guys who might surprise you.
In fact, this is why Wakefield is so valuable. He's not a star,
but he's the closest I've seen to a pitching machine. He just cranks
out the same numbers year after year and by having him the Red Sox have
20% of the pitching problem locked down in January.
As for the rest
Beckett -- Was supposed to be the anchor
Dice-K -- Who knows. He's strange and I expect he won't make it
through his contract.
Lester -- Young but promising. But could blow up.
Masterson -- Young but promising. But could blow up.
Perry -- Old but promising. But could break down.
So it's kind of a crap shoot, but with less crap than other
teams.
