Well, I agree with your points, but if you need to see the guys before going
into post season, then let's see them now. Or maybe they're not eligible anyway
for post season? I don't know?

Oh, and when I post or reply, it's to. Group generally and not an individually,
but people take the response as an individual obviously because they think they
are under attack for their fandomness and all that stuff. My apologies then.
Your perception is reality and I'm sorry if you took it that way. I'll be more
aware now when replying and I'll try to make it known as general statements and
not individual retorts.

I don't put much stock in momentum either (although one could argue momentum is
another word for "streak," which happens in the game all the time). I was just
frustrated at the way they put out lineups as if the wild card had been
clinched. Nail down your spot first, then rest regulars and put in Chris
Woodward and Brian Anderson. That just seems to make sense to me.

Well, I came down hard on you in defense of my soxfandomness. However,
I agree we should probably stick to arguing the points and stay away from
trying to label other folks who hold different opions.

I personally don't buy the momentum thing. It may carry over
game-to-game (may), but it won't mean diddly do in a couple of weeks of the
Yankees are lucky enough to survive the mighty Tigers. (ahem..) But I respect
the right of those who disagree with me to be wrong as the day is long.

So, the expressed purpose of this google group is to provide a
place where "Sox fans can lament, celebrate, and explain to each other how the
team should really be run." That is exactly what we are doing here. We are
criticizing the choices that Francona made over the weekend that lead to a
sweep by the Yankees. That does not mean we are "chicken", or that we are
"so-called fans". I find it hard to believe that any true Sox fan could be
satisfied with the events of the weekend. Sometimes I think I can do a
better job than the Sox management - and it's fun to discuss that with other
folks who feel the same way. The definition of the group also says "that we
respect each other on the list", but your chicken-little response is getting
old.

Oh Good Lord. Haven't we learned yet that there is no
such thing as a "head of steam" in baseball?

It just takes one good pitcher to blow that steam away.

Your rant is right on target Matt. I thought
my head was going to explode when Woodward blew that play on the rundown. Does
Francona think it is a good idea to send the Yankees into the post-season with
a head of steam? We took the first 8 games from the Yankees this season and
now we are on the verge of allowing them to tie the season series. We've lost
8 of the last 9 games to these guys. They have owned us in the second half.
And today, the brooms will be out as the Yanks prepare to win their 100th game
of the season and clinch the division.

Take heart though, we've got Paul Byrd on the
hill.

I know these games don't matter much in the long run, but...

It is so frustrating watching Chris Woodward and Brian Anderson bumble their
way through life when a playoff spot has not yet been clinched, and when a
sweep this weekend gives the Yankees the division. Woodward's ridiculous error
in the eighth today, which led to two critical Yankee runs, was painful to
watch. Why the hell is he on the field? I mean, we all know the bad guys are
going to win the AL East but wouldn't you think the Sox would manage and play
this weekend as if avoiding having to watch them dance all over the field
mattered? For crying out loud, there's seven games with Toronto and Cleveland
this week to play the Pawtucket kiddie corps.

OK. Rant over.
