No, he really isn't saying that because apparently the Sox' 4-year, $60m offer was taken off the table when the Sox signed Lackey. My guess is the Mets' offer was all he had. Supposedly the Mets' initial offer was five years but it seems they came back to four when they realized he had no other serious suitors. The guy overplayed his hand.
