I have no hopes whatsoever for Gustavo Molina, who is not related to the
fabulous Molina Brothers and profiles as a lighter hitting Kevin Cash (.639
career OPS in 11 minor league seasons).

Eric Patterson, though, could be a pretty decent player. He was considered a
real prospect when he was with the Cubs and has a lifetime .846 OPS in the
minors. Three times he stole better than 40 bases in a season and he can
play all three outfield spots and second base (though his infield defense
might be a bit sketchy). Never really gotten a full-time chance in the big
leagues, with just 335 at bats over four seasons.

Baseball Prospectus quoted a scout this year describing him as "half the
tools but twice the ballplayer" as big brother Corey.

Anyway, I've always liked him, and he could at least be a useful part of the
bench ... if the Sox ever have a bench again.
