"Man, everyone thought we could do it," said DH David Ortiz. "No one thought we could not win the division and make it to the World Series. No one. But people in this locker room, we believed it man. We never stopped doubting ourselves." Second Basemen Dustin Pedroia echoed Ortiz's statement. "We're just glad we got the chance to prove all those so-called experts...these smart guys and gals .. wrong. Like you always hear, the games are played on the field, not in the media. It feels good to show that we're not nearly as good as people thought we were." Manager Terry Francona denied that the overabundance of respect and admiration for the ballclub motivated the team to suck ass. "Nah, I don't think we spend too much time reading that stuff. I hope not anyway. I just know the guys in this locker room. I know the type of people they are. They know the suck.
