This is certainly excruciating to watch. The Sox certainly don't seem to be playing with any sense of urgency, other than pounding Toronto Tuesday night.
I am starting to think that Theo taking the Chicago GM job might not be the disaster I thought a month or so ago. Maybe we do need a change at the top, as well as with some players. There are an amazing amount of holes currently, or will be in the near future, with this team. Jed Lowrie - need to cut ties with him or stash him away in AAA. He's pretty good when healthy but I don't see handing him a starting job next year, or even being able to rely on him as a back-up infielder. Right Field - need a right-handed bat. Trade Reddick and/or Kalish to get one. Would have loved Hunter Pence here. Crawford - I will give him another year to get over the 'newness' of the Sox. Lackey - trade for bag o' balls. He has had his 2 years. Youk - need to start planning for his replacement. He cannot stay healthy. Ortiz - I would sign him to a year and an option. Ellsbury - get him signed to a longer-term deal. Rotation - assume you have Lester, Beckett, Buchholz next year. Keep Wake. Dump Lackey for whatever. Dump Miller for whatever. Find another couple of starters for the 4-5 spots. Maybe get Doubront up for the year as #5 guy. Bullpen - not terrible - keep Aceves, Bard, see if you can maybe sign Papelbon for another year; if not, make Bard the closer. I would probably keep Albers and Morales. Find some other bodies. Dan D Central NJ USA -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Red Sox Citizens" group.
