Mark Melancon. I don't see any reason to expect Mortensen be an actual contributor this season -- or possibly ever -- but I suppose you never know. Pitchers can be funny. I think this was just a salary dump so the Sox can afford Ross and maybe Roy Oswalt, which makes it worthwhile.
I like Scutaro, but I don't think they'll miss him much. He's basically average, he's 36 and he's been hurt. I couldn't say with any degree of certainty that he'd be better than Mike Aviles in 2012 (and I'm glad to see the Aviles in RF experiment quietly die). I think it's extremely optimistic though to expect Iglesias in the lineup this year, except as an emergency callup. His numbers were horrific in AAA last year (.285 OBP, .269 slugging in 387 plate appearances). Translate that to the majors and we'd be better off with Bobby Valentine hitting in the No. 9 spot. Blindfolded. And I'm not sure what Ray means by a championship shortstop. An aging Rafael Furcal is the current championship shortstop.
