Tom made an interesting point earlier in the thread when he said, essentially, "Doing the Yankee thing is not as easy as it looks."
I remember when the Yankees were not good at the "Yankee thing." Bill James wrote that the Yankees problem was that they constantly thought that they were in contention and would trade away their youth for that "final piece" to put them over the top. The Red Sox are now there. What this team desperately needs is a fire sale. I predict that we'll be nowhere interesting by the end of June and that it will be time to start dumping veterans for prospects. Who should go? Beckett--obviously Lackey--probably bundled with someone else and we still pay for him Dice-K--Perhaps we could get a backup bag of balls. Papi--Sorry, but yes. The guy is 36 years old with a one year contract. It's time to trade Papi for a raft of youth. It's time for the Sox to recognize that they've run the barge up a creek. Time to turn it around and get back to open water. Ray -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Red Sox Citizens" group.
