That doesn't excuse his tool-ness.

In fact, his being a tool probably still gets in the way. There are three
likely reasons for a loss in speed:

1. Injury. In which case, get on the DL, put down the golf clubs, and rehab.
2. Being out of shape. In which case, eat a freaking salad instead of the beer
and chicken, and lift a weight, Fatso.
3. Age. In which case, accept you're not 20 years old anymore and adjust how
you pitch. When Pedro's pitch speed dropped, he adjusted and, while not being
the old dominating Pedro, was still a strong major-league starter. Beckett, the
tool, keeps throwing the same shit he's always thrown, but since he can't hump
it up there like he used to, he gets hammered.

So we return to the crux of the matter: He doesn't give a shit, and he's
give-a-shit-less-ness is manifest in his shit results on the mound. If he gave
a shit, he'd do something to change the results. Instead, he gets defensive
about his shitness, and focuses on who's the mole in the clubhouse, which is a
non-issue unless, of course, you're a tool. Which he is.

He's running out of defenses for his behavior and his performance.

The real problem with Beckett isn't that he's a tool, it's too many 88 MPH
fastballs:

>From Mark Simon of ESPN Stats & Info:
"Beckett's fastball velocity is down from 93 mph to 91 mph this year. He's
thrown
17 of his 298 fastballs at 93 mph or higher this year; last year, 826 of his
1,541 fastballs were at 93 mph or higher.
