I think maybe we should let McClure pitch, he can't be any worse than Morales is doing right now.

A lot of these problems are 1. personnel; and 2. holdovers from last year's collapse. This is a bullpen cobbled together with spare parts. The Bard experiment was a disaster, largely, it seems, because he's a mental puddle. Beckett has continued his September swoon. Lackey is out for the year. Dice-K is a mess and has been for years. Jon Lester has been average at best for a year. Buchholz can't stay healthy. McClure strikes me as an average, fungible pitching coach. There probably aren't many exceptional ones. Farrell was, and that's probably why he's a manager now. -- Matt ________________________________ From: Ray Daniel Salemi <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, July 7, 2012 11:04 AM Subject: Re: Terrible Loss This is why I don't see big upside in Crawford, Ellsbury, and Pedroia coming back. The Red Sox are tied with the Blue Jays at #2 in runs scored across the entire MLB. (The Rangers are #1) They are #21 in ERA. So there's no room for Crawford, Ellsbury and Pedroia to improve our position. Pitching was the problem last year. Pitching is the problem this year. Pitching has not improved. McClure delenda est.
