Actually, it isn't such a silly question.

The easiest way is to use a plastic container.  I have used soft drink
bottles with the top cut off and ice cream containers.  Just make sure the
container is large enough to fit the urchin in and the top is nice and
wide.  Then when it is out in the open and accessible, lay the container
down flat on the surface the urchin is attached to and basically go
underneath it and scrape it off.  Do this slowly, and rock the urchin back
and forth gentle release its grip on the surface.  Don't just rip it off,
you damage way too many feet doing it that way.  Some can get a nice grip,
so it may take some force.  Then once it is off the surface scoop it up in
the container.
