Most likely yes.  And no, Acropora are actually (or some species are) are the
fastest growing coral there is in terms of linear growth rate.  I have a
particular species in my system that grows at around 5mm per week.  The speed
at which the coral will depend on factors such as:

* species
* light intensity
* water current
* size of encrusted region
* prey availability
* calcium concentration
* alkalinity concentration
* general water conditions
