It has been observed numerous times in captivity.  Surprisingly this has
not be observed by researchers or published, and is not a recognised form
of reproduction for sea cucumbers.  Most likely has to do with the fact
unless you actually caught a cucumber in the act of splitting in the wild
you are never going to know that it has.
