Jola...
I've been talking with Ron H and Sue about your problem (last week of so)
and a sudden growth of algae in an long-established tank (with consistent
low nutrient levels) suggests a spectrum change in these bulbs. I'm
currently dealing with this now. I had no hair-type algae in my tank (about
two years old) and at the 9 month point last September (bulbs started in
January 2000)...a slow growth of hair algae occurred. Now, I have alot more
of this algae than I'd ever want.
Yes, all of the common tests were run (to know what the nutrient levels have
been) and the kits were not expired. Also, I'm using a 5-Stage Spectrapure
RO/DI...Now I realize why you MUST change VHO bulbs at six months. No
further debates by me anymore on why you don't need to...I'm a believer...I
now have the pleasure of "weeding" the reef every two-days and the tangs
get the short stalks of new re-growth. I still need to change all the bulbs
(in particular the daylight bulbs) ASAP. When the lamps are changed this
week, the red-end of the spectrum will go-away and my "weeding" will become
less...no weeding in a few months.
Ron H is still batting 1000 over these last two-years!
OBTW...You'll like your VHO bulbs from him...Another very-good
recommendation by Ron H
Chuck

LEAVING THE LIST
================
To stop receiving messages you will need to send a message to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with a command to remove you from the list. The list
manager controls who belongs to the list.
