I  would not suggest fresh water.  What I have done is dip the rock in water that has a high salinity over 1.030.  Mantis, crabs and worms bolt from the shock.  Maybe a minute.  No more is needed.

I was reading some posts about dip the LR in Fresh water to take out all the shrimps and pests like mantis.

What can you tell me about this process?
My LR has coralline algae and some little tube worms, and I dont want to kill them.

I am thinking do it because I have alot of pistols shrimps in my rocks and I suspect that I have some mantis. The LR was uncured and i lost 2 fishes in a month.

TIA.
