You don't have to have UV. It helps kill bacteria, parasites and algae
spores in your tank, but IMO are more beneficial to a FO set up than a reef.
However, if you can afford one, I would say go for it. Another words, to me,
it is more important to get items like good lights, good protein skimmer,
live rock etc. But if UV is something you can afford, do it.
