Let me explain some. The whitefaced tang is sold sometimes as a powder
brown or gold rimed tang but this is not true.  It is a much smaller
fish.  I assume that since both fish look so much a like and the only
real difference is size that often they are considered the same thing.

Around here I I see the Acanthurus japonicus named both the gold-rimmed
tang and the powder brown.
