Seriously though, I had about a 3 year old ebo-jager go tits up on me
in my sump and I think it fouled the water pretty bad, the fish and
mushrooms seem to be fine, but my snails (one in particular who got
through all the tough times with me that I've had since 97') died.

Any idea what kind of impact the heater could of had on the tank? It
really reminds me of the time my RIO 600 went out in my 40.

Also, do you think I can get away with carbon or should I bite the
bullet and do the water changes?
