I know of a few fish that do this on occasion to leather corals. Bi-color
blennies especially. They like to sit on top of the leathers and check out
what is going on in the tank. Long nose hawks do this a lot as well.
Sometimes it takes the leather some time to adjust to being touched but
after a few weeks, they get used to it and after that, don't seem to mind it
at all. Give it some time and see if it adjusts. If after a few weeks, it
doesn't, then take the crab out and put him in your sump. I had the same
type of thing happen lately with a couple of emerald green crabs. They
adapted a couple of acro colonies and have been hanging out in them almost
immediately after adding them to the tank and havent left them since. So
much for them cruising the tank and eating bubble algae......

Greetings, Robert. The hermit may have "adopted" the leather coral.
I have
one that lives on a Fiji Yellow. If anything gets near the coral the
hermit
starts raising his claws. It has not harmed the leather at all over
the last
six months.
