Hello all,
As I promised you last month, I will keep reporting about my
dendronepththya:

This dendro is still doing fine since I brought it on Nov 18, 2000, though
it doesnt show any grown also. This 1" coral is kept in my IO tank (no fish
at all) and never been FED on purpose! I do this (never feed it) because I
believe the system in my tank has enough energy (direct and indirectly) to
support its life (and of course any other coral in it). IMO my tank is full
with both phyto and zooplankton. The macro zooplankton will come out after
the light off for 1-2 hours. One of them come from genus Calanus, looks like
brine shrimp but the length is no more than 0.5 mm. Copepods also seen in
greeat number after the light off.

This coral definitely needs at least medium current. One day I moved one of
fungia which then block the current to this dendro. The dendro then looks
getting weak and weaker. 6 days later I removed the fungia to another spot,
then this dendro is getting better.

Also that this dendro were placed near a bunch of protopalythoa sp. One of
the polyps which stays closest to my dendro doesnt look healthy. The open
polyps doesnt looks like others because it open to much, forming a half
close umbrella, sometimes it even doesnt open the polyp all day. I know that
soft corals release toxin to the surrounding area, but considering that
there's a medium current in that area and the polyp isnt placed behing the
dendro but side to side, I cant figure out the answer.

The tank is 100% hair algae and cyano free.

Jim.
